Frequent Bowel Movement
What is a Frequent Bowel Movement?
While the definition of a frequent bowel movement is different for each person, any number of trips to the toilet over five per day can be considered as frequent. The typical person has one or two bowel movements each day, but having more is not considered a problem.
Cause of Frequent Bowel Movements
Aside from diarrhea, the most common cause of frequent bowel movements is related to nervousness or illness. Excess liquid in the large intestine can cause over ten bowel movements a day or more. If experienced for any length of time, this type of bowel activity can be a serious dehydration & health concern.
Another common cause of repetitive bowel movements is a result of the time it takes after pooping for the next log to show up at the door. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to over half an hour, and is not a health concern.
Cure for Frequent Bowel Movements
In case of a highly liquid bowel movement experience, it is important to solidify your poop in short order. Addressing the root of the problem (stress, bacteria, virus, etc.) is recommended over the consumption of any quasi-medical “poop thickener” products. Taking more time to fully finish a bowel movement, whether it takes ten minutes or an hour, is another good way to reduce the frequency of bowel movements to a manageable number.
